| English is the basis for much of the work in
the Primary School and therefore occupies the major proportion of time.
It is made up of four aspects - Reading, Writing, Speaking and
Listening.
|
Reading
|
 |
| Children are given books at an appropriate
level which incorporates children's fiction as well as reading schemes.
Children will be given plenty of practice to develop their reading
skills and a Record Book will be sent home asking you to record the
extra help that you give your child.
There is a well-organised School Library and frequent Book Shops.
The Literacy Hour is a central part in our teaching.
|
Writing
|
 |
| We teach the Nelson Handwriting Scheme
(copies of which can be examined at School) and all major aspects of
spelling and grammar. These skills are then put to good use in a wide
variety of writing tasks. Each year a magazine is produced which
contains examples of the best of children's handwriting.
|
Speaking and Listening
|
 |
| We provide opportunities to develop listening
skills, as we believe these are increasingly important in order to
develop concentration and attention to detail.
Similarly children will be encouraged to develop their conversational
skills in small groups and therefore in front of an audience. |
